Diamond DA42-VI

DA42-VI The definition of perfection
Advanced Twin Technology

The DA42-VI is easy to fly and burns fuel like a single, but with the added safety of a second engine. Impressive cross-country performance pleases private pilots and business owners alike, while the low operating costs make it an ideal advanced trainer. No wonder it’s the best selling piston twin, by far.

DA42-VI improvements
The most important performance and weight improvements at a glance for a typical aircraft configuration compared to the DA42 NG:

  DA42-VI DA42 NG
Max. cruise speed (at MCP) 197 kts (365 km/h) TAS 177 kts (328 km/h) TAS
Empty weight*) 3,109 lbs (1,410 kg) 3,153 lbs (1,430 kg)
Take-off ground roll (ISA SL)  1,083 ft (330 m) 1,444 ft (440 m)
Rate of climb (ISA SL)  1,400 fpm (7.1 m/s) 1,090 fpm (5.5 m/s)

Go where singles fear to tread
Imagine this: It’s dark. You’re in the mountains. You’re picking up ice. Your intended destination just closed. It’s times like this that you’re grateful to have the added security of a second engine, flight into known icing certification and incredible endurance. All critical safety features when turning back is not an option. The peace of mind that comes with the Garmin G1000 NXi glass cockpit, GFC700 autopilot, EECU controlled turbo-diesel engines, and a tough composite airframe, is just part of a long list of standard features.
Don’t worry about high cost maintenance, fuelling and single engine operations:
Our DA42-VI equipped with Jet fuel engines offer you extreme fuel efficiency (consumption at 60% 10.4 US gal/hr), take you further (range at 60% 1,200 nm), are fuelled with lower priced Jet-A1 (average relation from Jet-A1 to Avgas 1:2) and have tremendously lower maintenance expenses than conventional gasoline engines.
With traditional twins, single-engine operations were their Achilles heel. Feathering an engine in the ultra-modern DA42-VI is as easy as flipping a switch, and restarting it after a simulated shut down is just as simple. With a single-engine ceiling of 18,000 feet and a positive rate of climb with one engine inoperative, the aircraft is supreme on the performance front, too.

Advanced avionics and all weather capability at day and night
The capableGarmin G1000 NXi cockpit makes flight planning and plan changes in the air less challenging.
A dual-alternator, dual battery system provides you with the confidence that your avionics will be there when you need them. The anti-static primer combined with static wicks ensures crisp reception especially in precipitation when you need it most.
Your DA42-VI is also certified for IFR (Instrumental Flight Rules), VFR (Visual Flight Rules) and Night VFR.
A proven TKS ice protection system helps the DA42-VI to withstand flight into known icing conditions. Wings, tail, propellers and windshield are protected with TKS fluid, systems are redundant and rigorous flight tests have demonstrated the ability of the DA42-VI to withstand icing long enough to get you back to safety.

Built to be the ultimate trainer aircraft
You are preparing your students to be the best airline pilots? The DA42-VI is the finest choice you can take for multi-engine rating. You’ll be in good company, many leading flight schools, make the DA42 a key plane in their training fleets because it offers students a training experience that helps with a transition to the regional jets. Jet-like thrust control, advanced Garmin G1000 NXi glass cockpit, and an ability to fly approaches and procedures in conditions similar to those encountered by light jets and turbo-props, means you can get ready for that day when you become an airliner pilot.

Note regarding model „DA42 NG“ and name „DA42-VI“:
The DA42-VI is the latest and improved version of the DA42 NG model. We point out that the name “DA42-VI” is used for marketing purposes to improve differentiation from the “DA42 NG”. However the model designation for both aircraft is the same. Therefore all DA42-VI technical documentation (such as type certificate, AFM, AMM, etc.) are issued with the model designation DA42 NG.

Diamond DA42 MPP Geostar

DA42 MPP GEOSTAR High Geo Accuracy meets Operational Economy
All-in-one solution for Geo Survey and Mapping

Diamond Aircraft, known for the most efficient aircraft in the industry and state-of-the-art remote sensing solutions, puts another Diamond in the sky. For the first time, the new DA42 GEOSTAR enables collecting laser-scanning and photo-grammetry data during one single flight. The GEOSTAR is particularly suited for surveying cities, land areas, critical infrastructure (such as pipelines), glaciers or snow fields, but also for mapping damages caused through natural disasters.

Most economic remote sensing platform
The systems are integrated on the DA42 MPP, the most economic remote sensing platform worldwide, with sufficient resources for fuel and flight crew. Hence the GEOSTAR is able to complete incredible 10-hour survey flights with a range of up to 1,042 NM, equivalent to the flight route Vienna – Alicante. At an altitude of 10,000 feet it can even collect data from areas of unbelievable 3,400 km², the size of the Spanish isle Majorca, during one single flight only.

Collect laser-scanning and photogrammetry data at once
For the first time, the new DA42 GEOSTAR enables collecting laser-scanning and photogrammetry data during one single flight.

A photogrammetric camera, installed in a special pod on the aircraft’s nose, delivers accurate representations of the Earth's surface, called ortho-photos (aerial photos). A laser-scanner captures the terrain topography by firing a laser and measuring the time it takes for the laser to be reflected back from a point. The result of the collected measurements is a digital terrain model in the form of a point cloud. The scanner is mounted on the belly of the aircraft in a specifically designed pod. By merging the ortho-photo with the point cloud you get a precise, realistic 3D model of the object.

State-of-the-art technology
The special mission aircraft consists of state-of-the-art technology from renowned companies:
- Long-range airborne laser-scanner “LMS-Q780” from RIEGL Laser Measurement Systems
- High-format photogrammetric camera “Ultracam LP” from Microsoft/VEXCEL Imaging
- Gyro stabilization mount “SSM 350 L” von SOMAG for drastic movement reduction of the camera
- Flight management systems “CCNS 5 / AEROCONTROL 2” from IGI Systems for guidance, positioning and sensor management

PROPULSION
The turbocharged Austro AE330 jet fuel piston engines perfectly match the DA62’s aerodynamically efficient airframe, burning only 17.1 gph, combined, at a high speed cruise of 192 ktas, and little as 9 gph at max endurance speed.
Control is jet-engine simple, with each engine / propeller combination controlled by a single power lever and power settings displayed in % power. Simplified power control means that you can focus on more important things – and that is not just more convenient, but safer too.
The 3 blade MT hydraulic constant speed propellers feature advanced blade geometry for efficient performance, smoothness and low noise. They are automatically controlled by each engine’s digital engine control through conventional hydraulic governors. Feathering is as simple as flipping a single switch.
The DA62’s AE330 180 hp jet fuel piston engines are a refinement of the well proven AE300 170 hp engine, in service in Diamond’s DA40 and DA42 since 2009. With over 1,200 engines in service and a total fleet time of well over 600,000 hrs as of November 2015, the AE300 has proven itself to be smooth, reliable and efficient.
